Submit the required forms after e-file acceptance
Complete the e-filing process by mailing Form 8453 and other required documents to the IRS after receiving acceptance of your Form 1040 e-file.
Before you begin:
- Make sure that the IRS has accepted the 1040 e-filed return.
- Have the e-file status report available.
Perform these tasks on the next working day after receiving the filing acceptance.
- Obtain the submission ID from the E-File Status Report.
- Transfer the submission ID to the correct form (8453, 8879, or 9325).
- Attach all required forms, schedules, and statements to Form 8453.
- Mail Form 8453 to the IRS service center within 3 business days of receiving acknowledgment.
- If there is a balance due without electronic debit, mail Form 1040-V with a check to the IRS.
The IRS receives all required forms and any balance due associated with the accepted 1040 return.
