FBAR e-file errors
Correct fatal errors in FBAR e-files before submitting, as they prevent processing. Amend file errors within 30 days, marking them as amended with a new signature date.
There are 2 types of FBAR e-file errors.
- Fatal errors:
- A required record is missing from the submitted file.
- The number of records included in the e-file doesn't match the record count.
Fatal errors prevent the e-file from being processed. FinCEN will reject FBAR e-files with fatal errors so you'll need to correct them before resubmitting.noteA rejected e-file hasn't been accepted, so a resubmission is still considered an initial report. Only indicate the e-file is a corrected report if it was originally filed as one. - File errors:
- An error in data entered in individual fields.
- Missing data from individual fields.
A file error won't stop the FBAR from being accepted. You'll need to correct and refile it as an amended FBAR.note- FinCEN recommends you file corrected FBARs within 30 days after receiving the error acknowledgment.
