Set up 1040 e-file signature authorization
Let taxpayers sign tax returns electronically by selecting a signature authorization method and entering PIN information in the Organizer.
Signature authorization lets taxpayers sign their tax returns electronically for e-filing. Enter signature authorization information in the Organizer before creating and submitting the electronic file.
2 signature authorization methods are available:
- Practitioner PIN (Form 8879)- The Electronic Return Originator (ERO) generates a 5-digit PIN for the taxpayer and spouse. This method requires Form 8879.
- Self-select PIN- The taxpayer select their own 5-digit PIN using their prior year AGI or self-select PIN for verification.
After selecting a signature authorization method, enter the PIN information in the Organizer.
