Sideload the add-in in Excel for the web

Sideload the add-in manually in your browser session using a manifest file and Excel for the web.
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
  • The add-in manifest file (
    manifest.xml
) saved on your local device.
  • Access to Excel for the web, for example, through Office.com, SharePoint, or OneDrive.
  1. Go to Excel for the web and open an existing workbook or create a new one.
  2. On the Excel toolbar, select the
    Home
    tab, then select
    Add-ins
    .
    note
    On some versions, select
    Insert
    Add-ins
    instead.
  3. On the
    Office Add-in
    screen, select
    More Add-ins
    .
  4. Select
    Upload My Add-in
    .
    note
This option typically appears at the end of the list or in the
    Manage my Add-ins
    dropdown.
  5. On the
    Upload Add-in
    screen, select
    Browse
    .
  6. Go to the location where you saved the
    manifest.xml
    file.
  7. Select the file, then
    Open
    .
  8. Select
    Upload
    on the
    Upload Add-in
    screen.
If the manifest is valid, a confirmation message appears and the add-in becomes active. You can now interact with the Workpapers NG add-in in Excel for the web.
Be aware of the following after sideloading the add-in:
  • If you clear your browser cache, switch browsers, or sign out and back in, you must sideload the add-in again.
  • If the
    manifest.xml
file is updated, you must update the add-in manually by sideloading it again.
