Free a locator when locked out or unable to open a locator

If a return appears open even though all users have it closed, you can free the locator using the following steps.

Freeing a locator will close all locators open regardless of entity type or tax year, so make sure that all users have closed the return before continuing.
  1. In the Browser, go to
    Returns
    and search for the locator.
  2. Mark the return and select
    Info
    .
    tip
    Use the
    History
    tab to see who might have the locator open.
  3. Select
    Free
    , and then
    OK
    .
