Consolidated Billing Matters

You create a consolidated billing matter by requiring firms to enter the firm client and matter number on invoices. Consolidated billing matters are umbrella matters that contain multiple related matters. Consolidated billing matters are useful for companies that handle multiple related matters. Using the firm information, you can differentiate and identify the individual matters within the consolidated billing matter. For example, if you set up a consolidated billing matter for European trademark matters, you would then be able to view spending by law firm matter name or country to see how much was spent on trademarks in a particular country. Law firms cannot post invoices to the consolidated billing matter until they have entered or uploaded their law firm matter information.
With consolidated billing matters, your law firms must associate the unique law firm matter names and numbers for all their invoices associated with the consolidated billing matter. Unless you specify the country in which the work will be performed, your firms enter the location where the work is being performed.
Legal Tracker does not notify the firm of the consolidated billing matter until the firm attempts to post its first invoice to it. For this reason, we recommend you notify your firms when you set up a consolidated billing matter.
