Lead & Second Company Person

  • The designation of the Lead Company Person for a matter is important for sorting and grouping matters, for assigning responsibilities, and for historical record keeping purposes. Typically, the Lead Company Person is an in-house attorney, but this is not a requirement.
  • Every matter (both internal matters and external matters) must have a Lead Company Person assigned to be responsible for the matter.
  • The name of the Lead Company Person is shown in the matter profile for each matter.
  • The Lead Company Person is automatically a matter administrator. This matter role cannot be changed, but a new Lead Company Person can be assigned.
  • The Lead Company Person will be an approver of any invoices submitted to the matter.
  • The Lead Company Person will be responsible for providing a budget and matter estimates in any matter that is an internal matter, or any matter in which there is no lead firm.
note
Matters are locked when the Lead Company Person is inactive when Active Directory is enabled.

#2 Company Person

If you do not see a field for selecting the #2 Company Person in the Matter Profile form, your administrator or Tracker Coordinator needs to enable this field in
Settings > Matter Setup > Matter type-templates & Matter Setup
, as well as the template configuration page for this specific type of matter (for example, Claim, Litigation, etc.)
The #2 Company Person is someone directly responsible for the matter along with the Lead Company Person, for example, a legal assistant or secondary attorney. The #2 Company Person appears in the matter list below the Lead Company Person and in the filter criteria of many reports.
