Performing an Advanced Search

To perform an Advanced Search, a
Search Type
 must first be selected. At present, you can select by HS Number or ECN Number. Both types of searches are covered within this chapter.

Searching by HS Number

To search by HS Number:
  1. Select
    HS
     from the
    Search Type
     drop-down.
  2. The screen will then refresh to show HS-related fields for the advanced search. From here, you can select a Country/Tariff schedule, narrow down the search options by checking/unchecking the desired parameters.
  3. Choose both a match type and description culture (language). In the
    HS Number/Description
     field, you can search by an HS Number (if known) or by a keyword.
  4. After all desired search criteria have been specified, click on the magnifying glass to start the search.
After a search is generated, the screen will refresh to show the search results in a grid. The search options will be hidden; but can be shown again by clicking the (
Show Advanced Options
) button.
Initially, information will only appear at the Chapter level. However, information can be expanded further by clicking on the expansion arrows on the leftmost side of the grid.
To review HS Number details, choose an HS Number from the grid and click its corresponding link.
Clicking on the HS link will open the
Global Tariffs Detail
 screen as a pop-up. For more information about this screen, refer to the
Global Tariffs Detail
 chapter of this User Guide.
Additionally, if keywords are used in the search, the word will be highlighted each time it appears in the description, like in the example shown below:

Additional Detail

To review additional details for an HS Number, choose a rate from the “Additional Detail” column and click on the corresponding link.
Clicking on an
Additional Detail
 link will open the
Additional Detail
 pop-up with the corresponding HS Number’s information populated into the grids. This pop-up can remain a pop-up or can be turned into a separate browser page by clicking on the pin icon. For more information, go to the

Searching by ECN Number

To search by ECN Number:
  1. Select
    ECN
     from the
    Search Type
     drop-down.
  2. After the screen refreshes, you can search across Tariff Related fields they are subscribed to including ECN Full Description, ECN Notes, ECN Control Reasons, and ECN License Exception Detail.
  3. Set the desired parameters for the search and then click on the magnifying glass icon.
When the screen refreshes, all ECN codes with similar or complete matches to the specified search criteria will then appear in a grid, like in the example shown below.
The advanced search options will also be hidden but can be reopened by clicking on the
Show Advanced Options
 button. Additionally, the details of a specific ECN can be viewed by clicking on the expansion arrows on the left.
Additionally, if a keyword is used during the search, it will appear as highlighted text.
At any time, more information about an ECN can be viewed by clicking on an
ECN Code
 link.
