WCO Changes of Malaysia
On June 1st, 2022, Malaysia adopted a new tariff schedule aligned with the latest World Customs Organization (WCO) 2022 nomenclature. Currently, Malaysia maintains a total of five distinct tariff schedules.
The primary schedule, known as the Malaysia Customs Duties Schedule 2022, is utilized for both import and export activities. It is essential to select the appropriate HS code from this schedule to ascertain the main duty rate, preferential duties, other duty, controls, and other relevant information, as detailed in the accompanying table.
While the new schedule is in effect, the older tariffs continue to be relevant as these are used primarily to determine preferential rates for FTAs that still operate under previous versions of the HS nomenclature, as the older tariffs have not yet been transposed to the latest nomenclature by Customs.
