Creating a New Decision Tree

To create a new Decision Tree, click
New
 in the top right of the
Editor
 screen.
To add or modify to an existing branch or tree, click the
Edit
 button and make any necessary changes.
Once the changes are complete, click the
Save
 button.
Once New, Edit, or Save As is clicked, the
Decision Tree
 pop-up will open. The Decision Tree being edited is always the first node in the editor window. Decision Tree header information can be set at the time of initial creation or it can be edited in the below pop-up:
Data Entry Fields
Description
Title
The header for the Decision Tree being created or edited. This can be set up at the time of creation or be edited using the Decision Tree pop-up.
Description
A description of the selected Decision Tree.
Help Notes
Additional notes to help you with utilizing the Decision Tree.
State
  • Visible
    : The Title, Description, and Help Notes will display on the left side of the Viewer/Questionnaire screen.
  • Hidden
    : The Title, Description, and Help Notes will not appear on the left side of the Viewer/Questionnaire screen.
Checkboxes
  • Allow users to edit answered questions?
    If checked, this allows you to edit previously answered questions in the survey. This is recommended practice.
  • Show all linear questions at once?
    If checked, the Viewer/Questionnaire screen will display questions in the tree that are in a linear format.
    For example, if three Predefined question (types) are sequential in a Decision Tree, the Viewer/Questionnaire screen will display all three at the same time rather than requiring an answer before the next question displays.
    A Dropdown question type is an example of a non-linear question, as different answers could lead to other branches.
  • Add subtrees by reference?
    If checked, the Decision Tree will display subtrees that are added to the tree as a singular node rather than expanding the subtree’s notes. This setting is recommended when managing branches in separate trees. It is important to avoid constructing trees in a way that creates infinite loops of questions.
Save and Close
Saves and closes the Decision Tree.
