Assists are support or aid that United States manufacturers provide to foreign suppliers to help the foreign supplier make products faster or at a reduced cost. Assists are typically in the form of machinery or supplies sent to the supplier. The values associated with these assists are dutiable. The
Assist Assignment
screen is used for the creation, management, and monitoring of assists. This screen can be opened by choosing Assist Assignment
from the Maintenance
menu.You have the option to define an assist as an Equal Allocation or a Lump Sum.
Assist Types | Description |
|---|---|
Equal Allocation | The assist value is equally allocated to all entries consuming the assisted product. Equal Allocation is the default assist definition. |
Lump Sum | The entire assist value is allocated to the first shipment into the United States that consumes the assisted product. |
The grid at the bottom of the screen shows the actual transactions with the assist portion.

Assist Assignment (Data Entry Fields) | Description |
|---|---|
Name | The user-defined name for the assist. |
Status | The status of the assist: Active, Open, Closed, or Canceled. |
Code | The user-defined code for the assist as a unique identifier. |
Amount | The total amount for the assist. |
Projected Units | The number of units to be received to allocate for the assist. To enter a lump sum, enter 1. |
Assist Per Unit | The calculated value applied per unit based on Amount/Projected Units |
Est Units Remaining | The number of units remaining from the Projected Units total. |
Lump Sum Flag | If this assist is for a lump sum, check this box. If this assist is not for a lump sum, leave this box unchecked. |
HMF | If the assist value should be included for Harbor Maintenance Fees, check this box. If the assist value should not be included for Harbor Maintenance Fees, leave this box unchecked. |
Assist Period | The timeframe the assist is set for. |
ManufacturerID | Since products could be multi-sourced, this field designates which material the assists should be applied to. |
Product Group/Sub Group | This field further defines the products the assists should be applied to. This field is optional. |
Product | If the assist applies to only one product, this field is the most discrete level of assist allocation. |
Amount Applied | Displays how much of the assist amount has been allocated. |
Amount Remaining | Displays the remaining value of the assist amount. |
