Smart HS (Ad Hoc) Screen
The
Smart HS
screen can be used to classify a product. This screen follows most of the same steps described in the Smart HS
section of the Edit Classification
chapter of this User Guide. The differences are:- The purpose of this screen is to classify any type of product.
- For this option, you will not have a product shown on the “Edit Classification” screen. Due to that, you will not see the header fields showing product information.
- You can choose any country available from the list at theCountrydrop-down field to classify your product under this country.
- The certificate will be available to be viewed from this screen and you can generate multiple times, even for different fully-qualified HS Numbers.
- The information on this screen will be available only while you are working. If you close the screen, everything that you did you be lost, because nothing is saved.

ToolTips are additional information about specific fields or functions within the system. They will appear as a “?” icon. They become visible on the screen when you hover your cursor over one of these icons.
Countries
Select a country from the
Country
drop-down. This drop-down has type-ahead capabilities. Entering a letter or word will filter options to only show countries that contain that value.
Languages
The product descriptions can be entered into
Smart HS
and additional information subsequently viewed in English, Portuguese, French, or Spanish. English is the default language. To select a different language, click on the language drop-down and choose a language from the list.
Describe Your Product
After selecting the Country and Search Language, click on the
Describe Your Product
field and enter a description of the product. Refer to the Classifying a Product section to read more about it.
