ONESOURCE Global Classification AI

ONESOURCE Global Classification AI is a generative AI solution that suggests HS numbers based on several factors:
  • Industry context
: The AI understands that terms can have different meanings across industries.
    • For example, "disk" in the music industry suggests media-related HS codes (compact disc, vinyl), while in technology, it may suggest computer hardware codes (hard drive, SSD).
  • Product data
: Providing detailed information about a product enhances classification accuracy, allowing the AI to differentiate between similar products, recommending the correct HS numbers.
  • Machine learning
: The AI learns from previously classified products. It uses patterns from past classifications to improve HS number suggestions for new, similar products.

This feature is currently available only in the United States and will expand to additional regions soon.

    AI Suggestions
button, located next to the "HS Number" field. This action opens the "AI-Assisted Classification" panel on the right of your screen.

AI-Assisted Classification Panel

At the top of the "AI-Assisted Classification" panel, you will find a
Describe your product
field. The product description you previously added will appear here, and you can edit it as needed.
  1. To base results only on your past products with similar descriptions, select
    Check products with similar descriptions
. To see only AI‑generated suggestions, leave this box unchecked.
  2. Once you’re done, select
    Generate suggestions
    .
  3. This action will generate up to three cards with classification suggestions in the "Suggested HS numbers" section, ordered from most likely to least likely.
Suggested HS Numbers section
This feature only shows products from your own organization to maintain data privacy and relevance. The AI learns from aggregated industry data, but tailors result to each client's specific product catalog.
Each suggestion card in this section includes:
  • The suggested HS number.
  • Similarity score
: Indicates the probability of accuracy, based on the information provided.
  • Similar to
: Displays other products with similar classifications.
  • Product characteristics
: Expand this section by selecting the arrow for more details about each aspect of the classification. This helps you confirm if the suggested HS number aligns with your product's attributes.
  • Product details
: This section provides a description of the product.
You can further refine suggestions by selecting
Refine suggestions for
. This allows you to open dropdown selections and adjust sections that generate HS numbers for more personalized results. Improving your product description can also significantly enhance the accuracy of the suggestions.
Choosing an HS Number
  1. Once you have identified the most suitable suggestion, select
    Choose HS Number
    .
  2. The "
    AI-Assisted Classification
" panel will close, and the
    HS Number
    and
    HS Rationale
fields will be automatically populated in the “Detail” tab.
  3. Select
    Save
    to apply the classification.

Classification Settings

The
Classification Settings
can be found under "
Tools and templates
" in the main menu. This section allows you to configure how the AI processes and suggests classifications.
This screen contains four sections, all of them with an
Edit
button.
1. Choose default characteristics
This section allows you to define product characteristics that the AI uses for classification.
  • Industry
: Select the industry related to the product. Example: Automotive.
  • Check characteristics in Global country profile
: This option, when enabled, fills in empty fields with global content. It is only used when your selected country profile fields are empty.
  • Product record characteristics
: In here, you can add product descriptions.
  • Select
    Add characteristics
    to insert additional information to
    Product record characteristics
, such as product group, product number, audit date, etc. If you wish to add more customized characteristics, contact Professional Services.
  • Select
    Save
once you have added or updated the characteristics.
Country-specific settings:
You can configure a different
Industry
and product characteristics for specific country profiles and business units. This allows the AI to apply the correct industry context per country profile or business unit, improving the accuracy of HS suggestions across your organization.
Product number breakdown:
Enable this setting to allow the AI to break down the product number into meaningful segments and use them as additional classification signals. This is useful when your product numbering convention carries information about the product category or type, leading to more precise HS suggestions.
Edit a characteristic
  1. Select
    Edit
    .
  2. Choose the characteristic you want to change or add a new characteristic by clicking on
    Add characteristic
    .
  3. Select
    Save
    to apply the update.
Delete a characteristic
  1. Select
    Edit
    .
  2. Choose the characteristic you want to delete and click on the three dots next to it.
  3. Select
    Remove
    .
  4. Confirm the deletion by clicking on
    Save
    .
important
The information provided here automatically populates the "Describe your product" field in the "AI-Assisted Classification" panel. Therefore, providing detailed and accurate product information is crucial for the AI to generate precise suggestions.
2. Create custom rules for characteristics
This section allows you to create custom rules that tailor AI classification to the industry, country, and business unit you specify.
  • Select
    Create custom rule
    .
  • Define
    Industry
    ,
    Country profile
    and
    Business unit
    .
  • In “Product record characteristics”, add at least one characteristic the AI should use when classifying products for the selected scope. You can add up to 10 characteristics per rule.
  • Select
    Save
    to apply the rule.
important
Custom rules override the default characteristics for the specified scope. When a product matches a custom rule, the AI uses that rule’s industry and characteristics instead of the defaults set in section 1.
3. Show/Hide AI Content Labels
This section controls the visibility of AI indicator icons.
  • Show all AI content labels
: If this option is disabled, the
    AI Suggestion
button will lose its star icon, which is the symbolic indicator for AI features.
  • Choose your preferred option and select
    Save
    .
4. Exclude History
This section allows you to refine the AI's learning by excluding products from its training data. This is useful for improving AI results by removing or modifying products with insufficient or inaccurate information.
  • In the table within this section, select the product you wish to modify or exclude.
  • Click
    Actions > Edit current exclusions
    . A pop-up window will open.
  • To exclude the product, select the
    Exclude business unit
    option.
If you don’t want to exclude the whole product, and wish to be more specific in what needs to be excluded:
  • In the
    Exclude by date
section, you can exclude products edited within a specific time interval.
  • You can also select
    Exclude by assurance level
, which opens a dropdown menu with assurance level options for you to choose.
Select
Request update
to save your changes.
important
The exclusion will only be valid after the next AI model training cycle. A notice in this section will indicate when the next workflow execution is scheduled and advise you that you can edit items until that date. While the training cycle is in progress, you can't edit or remove existing exclusions.
Other options within the
Edit
button allow you to cancel pending exclusions or to remove them from the table.
