Canada imposes new sanctions on Russian individuals, entities and vessels
Date of publication: February 25, 2026
The Government of Canada, through National Defence and in coordination with Global Affairs Canada, announced additional sanctions measures under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations to increase economic pressure on Russia in response to its ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
These actions, taken on the four-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, include renewal of Operation UNIFIER for an additional three years to 2029, which provides a variety of support for Ukraine’s operational military needs.
Additionally, new sanctions measures are being imposed.
New sanctions measures imposed
- 21 individuals linked to Russia's activities undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity
- 53 entities associated with Russia's economic and military capabilities
- 100 vessels from Russia's "shadow fleet" involved in transporting property and goods for the benefit of Russia or persons in Russia
Since 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 3,300 individuals and entities complicit in the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and in gross and systematic human rights violations and has acted against Russia's shadow fleet by sanctioning over 500 vessels.
Conclusion
These new Canadian sanctions measure further constrain Russia's revenue generation and logistics networks that support its war against Ukraine.
Companies should carefully review the updated listings to assess potential impacts on their operations, counterparties, and shipping or energy-related transactions involving Russia.
