United States announces $275 million OFAC settlement with Adani Enterprises for Iran sanctions violations

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has announced a civil settlement with Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), an Ahmedabad, India-based company, to resolve AEL's potential civil liability for apparent violations of U.S. Iran sanctions.
The measures impose:
- A civil monetary settlement of USD 275,000,000 on Adani Enterprises Limited for 32 apparent violations of OFAC's Iran sanctions
- Resolution of potential civil liability arising from AEL's purchase of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) shipments that were purportedly sourced from Oman and Iraq but in fact originated from Iran
- Recognition that, between November 2023 and June 2025, AEL caused U.S. financial institutions to process 32 U.S. dollar-denominated payments totaling approximately USD 192,104,044 related to these LPG shipments
- An enforcement response reflecting OFAC's determination that the apparent violations were egregious and not voluntarily self-disclosed, while also taking into account AEL's remedial measures and cooperation with OFAC's investigation
- Since the apparent violations occurred between November 2023 and June 2025 and involved the use of U.S. financial institutions to process payments for Iranian-origin LPG, this settlement reflects OFAC's continued enforcement of U.S. sanctions targeting Iran-related trade and the importance of responding to transactional red flags.
