1041 K-1 template

The 1041 K-1 Template import feature helps you populate many fields on the
1041 Schedule K-1
screens. It only applies to the 1041 tax application.
note
  • Currently, you can't use this template for PTP K-1s.
  • When there are new K-1s, add them in the software 1st, and then export.
  • Once exported, open the 1041 K-1 template and enter your amounts.
If you enter new K-1s in the template prior to having them in the software, you'll have to call support to fix your return.
  1. Get the
    1041_2023_Sch K_1_Template.xlsm
file from the file download page and download the template. This is your starting point for data import.
    Required fields for import:
    • TR_Setup tab
      • Firm ID
      • Account ID
      • Year
      • Tax Type
      • Locator
    • TR_1041_Sch_K_1_Detail
      tab
      • Entity type
      • Activity Number
      • K-1 Name
      • Federal EIN
    • TR_1041_Sch_K_1_Group_Detail
tab (only required if you are importing group detail)
      • Entity type
      • Activity Number
      • K-1 Name
      • Federal EIN
  2. If macros are enabled, selecting a field with a fixed value will trigger a pop-up window. Select the correct value from the description provided, and it will automatically populate the field. If you prefer not to use macros, refer to the
    TR_1041_Sch_K_1_Strings
    tab for the necessary values.
    note
Enter the correct values for the best results.

Template tabs

TR_Setup
  • Header Information
: includes firm ID, account ID, and locator number. These fields are fixed.
TR_XXXX_Asset_Detail
  • Data Entry
: Enter your data here. There can be multiple rows of data. However, the 1st and 2nd rows are fixed. The import will use the column descriptions to know where to import the data.
  • Column Order
: The 1st 4 columns need to remain as they are. The remaining columns can be moved or deleted to fit your needs.
  • Multiple Rows
: Each row will consist of a separate Schedule K-1 to be imported into the program.
note
Data in the return will be deleted prior to import. If you have data in the return you want to save, export first for the detail.
An export will prepopulate the required columns on the Detail and Group Detail tabs based upon return data. This can be useful as we’ve had support calls in the past about how data relates between the Detail and Group Detail tabs.
TR_1041_Sch_K_1_Group_Detail
Enter your data here. The 1st 4 columns and the 1st 2 rows are fixed. You can also import multiple rows of data.

Checking field details

  • Field Info
: To see which column heading transfers to which field, right-click on the field in the Organizer screen, select
    Field Info
    , and check the details.
