IND-996 e-file error
You get this error when the IRS issues a dependent on this return with an
Identity Protection PIN
, but you've entered the wrong PIN in the return.Error message
The Dependent/Qualifying Person Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) provided on the return is not valid. Please visit www.irs.gov/getanippin for further information and resubmit your return with the correct number. (IND-996).
Solution
- Go toOrganizer, thenGeneral Information.
- SelectDependents, thenDependent Input.
- Double check theDependent Identity Protection PIN:
- If it is wrong, correct it, do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
- If correct, contact the IRS e-Help desk at 866-255-0654 or paper file the return.
