e-file diagnostics
- e-file rejects- These diagnostics identify conditions in the return that cause the IRS to reject the return if it’s transmitted. The conditions generating the reject diagnostics must be corrected before transmitting the file.
- Rejects- These diagnostics identify such tings as missing information, mismatched information, or incorrect data.
- e-filealerts- The existence of alert diagnostics won't prevent the return from being e-filed. However, you should still investigate the conditions generating these diagnostics as they may reveal data entry errors.
- XML validation errors- These are generated only after the XML's created. The conditions that generate validation errors are determined by the IRS and generally relate to issues with data formatting and unexpected information.
