Error: The field ‘ShareholderEIN’ with value data is missing

This happens when EIN is selected as the shareholder ID type on Form 5471, Schedule B, Part II. A valid nine-digit EIN was not entered.

Solution

  1. In the member return containing Form 5471, go to
    Organizer
    Foreign Information
    Foreign Corporation
    Foreign Corporation
    [Name]
    Schedule B
    Schedule B, Part II
    [Name]
    .
  2. Select the correct ID type for the shareholder.
  3. If the ID type is
    EIN
    or
    SSN
    , enter the valid ID number. An EIN must contain 9 digits.
  4. If the ID type is
    Applied For
    or
    Foreign
    , leave the ID field blank.
  5. Recreate the e-file and resubmit the return.
