9981, 9982, and 9984 federal return attachment incomplete e-file error
You get this error when the federal return attachment details are incomplete for the Indiana return.

IMPORTANT: This return has not been submitted to the state as details for the federal return attachment are not complete.
Solution
- Paper file the Indiana return.
- Create and qualify the federal return from the same binder or locator as the Indiana return.
- In the federal return, go to .
- Change the federal return entity type toCorporate Single Entity.
- Create and qualify the federal e-file from the same locator.
- Recreate the Indiana e-file and submit the Indiana return using the normal e-file steps.
- After the Indiana return is accepted, change the federal entity type back toSubsidiary.
There's no line option on the
Federal Copy
tab because Indiana doesn't require a federal copy. However, you need to create the federal return to avoid this error. The federal return information transfers to the Indiana return.If Indiana rejects it again for the same federal XML issue, the federal return may need to be accepted, rather than only submitted. In that case, wait until the federal return is accepted before e-filing the Indiana return.
