State rejected because of federal copy e-file error

Error message

The state return was rejected because of the federal copy.

Solution

Go to
Organizer
State E-file
Enable/Create Return
Federal Copy
and review the federal copy selection and related fields.
If
Attach a Federal XML from a different locator/binder
is selected, verify that:
The federal return has been accepted.
The current-year locator number is entered.
The EIN matches the EIN on the accepted federal return.
If
Attach a Federal XML created just for state (State Copy)
is selected, verify that the EIN and locator number match the EIN and locator number for the binder.
If the binder is a federal subsidiary filing as 1 state entity, select another valid federal copy.
Recreate and submit the state e-file.
