Beginning with tax year 2023, no duplicate locator's needed when needing to file an extension for both the regular return and the 1042 return.
- Go toOrganizer,Informational Forms,Withholding for Foreign Persons, and thenExtension.
- SelectFile Form 7004.
- Next go toFederal 1042 E-file Extension, and thenEnable Extension.
- SelectEnable federal 1042 extension e-file, enter the EFIN (electronic federal identification number), and then select theType of originator.
- Next, go toSignature Authorization, and complete this information.
- If an extension payment's made through direct debit, go toAdditional InformationandBank Informationto complete any required information.
- To create the 1042 extension e-file, go toCreate E-file Extension, and selectCreate Federal 1042 Extension E-file.
- Once a qualified extension e-file's created, submit the e-file using theFederal 1042 Extensionjurisdiction description in the e-file submission.
