Use the DIF template file to create a DIF source file for Ohio cities
Use the DIF template to create a source file for Ohio cities, ensuring accurate data entry and formatting for seamless import.
You can use the DIF and KAT template files to create a DIF source file in Excel (or any other spreadsheet software). Make a copy of the template DIF file, then save the file with a name identifiable with the related tax return.
Once you've finished the data entry into this source DIF file, you'll need to use the
DIF Import
to exchange the data.- Ohio city codes are provided in theYear_Ohio_City_Codes.XLSfile included in the toolkit. Copy the codes from this spreadsheet into the source DIF file so you don't have to enter the codes manually.noteEach code is unique to 1 Ohio city and its associated taxing authority (CCA, RITA, Cincinnati, Columbus, or Generic).
- Ohio city names are calculated in the software based on the city code. Don't change city names in the source DIF import file to a different city than what the city code indicates.noteThat changes the city name displayed in theOrganizer, but it won't change the city return produced by the software.
- Don't copy the Ohio city taxing authority codes included as part of the city code listings in theYear_Ohio_City_Codes.XLSfile into the source DIF file.noteThe software calculates the taxing authority code automatically but you can replace it if the taxing authority changes.
- You can import Ohio city codes without A&A data. Manually enter or copy A&A data into the source DIF file according to its column order.noteTheYear_entity_Ohio_Cities.KATtemplate file has been built to match the column order of the template DIF file. Don't insert or delete rows or columns that change the column header section of the DIF file.
- Once you're done with data entry, save the file as a DIF (Data Interchange Format) file. If you're using Excel, select , and selectDIF(Data Exchange Format) (*.DIF) from theSave As Typedropdown.
