Trial Balance codes
The Trial Balance product uses the following codes to assign account balances to specific lines of the tax return.
Tax Return Code (TRC)
TRCs are a system-defined 5-digit code that maps accounts to the balance sheet, income and deductions, Schedule M-1, and M-2 areas of the return.
- TRCs are mandatory on all returns.

M-3 return code (MRC)
MRCs are a system-defined code that maps income and expense accounts to the Schedule M-3.
- MRCs are mandatory if filing Schedule M-3.
- MRCs can only be assigned to accounts with TRCs in the 30- or 40-range.

Tax Combination Code (TCC)
TCCs are user-defined 3-digit code that breaks down a TRC into sub-categories for detail purposes.
- TCCs are optional.
- TCCs are mandatory if using cross-tie print for 1120 consolidations.
- They can be added using the Coding section at the top of the Trial Balance. Select a TRC and selectAdd Newfor the TCC.
M-3 Combination Code (MCC)
MCCs are user-defined 3-digit code that breaks down an MRC into sub-categories for detail purposes.
- MCCs are optional.
- MCCs can't be used for Schedule M-3, Part II, lines 1-10, on 1065 and lines 1-12 on 1120.
- They can be added using the Coding section at the top of the Trial Balance. Select a TRC and selectAdd Newfor the MCC.
Property Code (PC)
PCs are user-defined code that maps accounts to a specific rental, royalty, or farm activity.
- The code needs to match theActivity #of the activity in the Organizer or it creates a new activity.
- PCs are used only in 1065, 1120S, and 1120-REIT returns.
- They can be added using the Coding section at the top of the Trial Balance. Select a TRC and selectAdd Newfor the PC.
