Consolidate in Organizer
We recommend you do these steps before continuing the federal consolidation process.
- InOrganizer, go toConsolidated Returns, and thenStep 1 - What to Consolidate.
- Confirm the members listed. These are populated by adding members in Binder Properties and then computing the binder to transfer the listing from TAS to Organizer. If you add or delete a member, you must repeat these steps.
- Next go toFederal Forms to Consolidate. By default, the system consolidates all federal forms.
- Next go toStates to Combine / Consolidate. Activate the states you want to file a combined/consolidated return for with this binder. If the state doesn't allow combined/consolidated filings, it won't be listed.
- To activate states, selectState and City Activation/Consolidation.
- Select theAllocation and Apportionmentoption to combine/consolidate allocation and apportionment.noteDon't select this option if you want to roll up divisions and then enter allocation and apportionment information in the divisional roll up return.
- Select the states you want to consolidate.
- Next, selectReview State Combined Stepsand complete the steps.
- SelectInactive State Activationto identify and then activate any particular state in the subsidiary binders for which you've activated in the consolidated binder. For example, if California's selected to be combined in the consolidated binder, California must be activated in each member binder as well.noteThese states require a consolidation, but don't allow for state combined returns: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Kentucky. Mississippi and Virginia can also file as consolidated returns.
- Go toStep 2 - Enter Consolidated Overrides. This is for federal overrides you may wish to make in a Top Consolidation. Overrides entered in this screen are used instead of the consolidated amounts from subsidiaries. If you override in the Top Consolidation, the system creates an adjustment in the whitepaper schedule with possible footing errors.
- Now go toStep 3 - Select Print and Calculationto make your selections.
- Next go toStep 4 - Review Preconsol Checklistto check out of balance and compute pending subsidiaries and inconsistent levels of detail.
- Now selectStep 5 - Consolidate!to start the Organizer consolidation process. This includes an option to consolidate with cross-ties. State returns don't use cross-ties. Each individual state has a specific whitepaper presentation format based on the state-required information.noteA consolidation binder can be consolidated prior to the completion of the member binders; however, it'll only consolidate data that's been entered. The binder can be consolidated as many times as needed.
- And lastly, if the return was consolidated using cross-ties, selectStep 6 - Review Cross-Tie Information. Use this review screen to identify any TCC inconsistencies. If you use a common chart of TCCs, then the only cause of inconsistent TCCs would be if you entered data manually in the Organizer.
- The consolidation is now complete.
