Error: The field ‘BusinessName’ is unexpected

This error occurs when the partner entity type doesn't match the ID type on California Form 565 or Form 568 Schedule K-1.

Solution 1

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    California
    Partner Information
    Other Partner Information
    .
  2. Verify that the entity type matches the ID type. Only individuals can have a Social Security number entered. All other entity types must have an EIN.
  3. Enter the ID number in the correct format:
    • EIN format: XX-XXXXXXX
    • SSN format: XXX-XX-XXXX
  4. Do a full recompute and recreate the e-file.

Solution 2

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    Partner Information
    Partner by Partner Data
    [partner folder]
    [partner name]
    Partner Information
    Partner Information
    .
  2. Verify that the entity type matches the ID type. Only an individual or trust can have an SSN entered. All other entity types must have an EIN.
  3. Enter the ID number in the correct format:
    • EIN format: XX-XXXXXXX
    • SSN format: XXX-XX-XXXX
  4. Do a full recompute and recreate the e-file.

    K-1 Aggregation
    Summary
    Attach K-1 Aggregation XML File section

  2. Select
    Suppress system generated Schedule K-1
    .
  3. Do a full recompute and recreate the e-file.

Solution 4: If you are using a K-1 aggregation file

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    California
    E-file
    K-1 Aggregation
    Summary
    .
  2. In the
    Attach K-1 Aggregation XML File
    section, mark
    Suppress system generated Schedule K-1
    .
  3. Run a full recompute and recreate the e-file.

Solution 5: If you are not using a K-1 aggregation file

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    Partner Information
    Partner by Partner Data
    [NAME]
    Partner Information
    Partner Information tab
    .
  2. The entity type needs to match the ID type. Only individuals, estates, and trusts can have an SSN entered. All other entity types must have an EIN
  3. Run a full recompute and recreate the e-file.
