Error: Field 'TotalAdditions' is unexpected

This validation error occurs when e-filing a Connecticut 1065 return. The StateModifications section contains an unexpected TotalAdditions element.

Solution 1: Verify PE Liability amount

  1. Go to
    Tax Forms
    States
    Connecticut
    CT-1065 2024 Composite return
    CT-1065 2024 P8
    Part 8
    .
  2. Make sure
    Line 11 Total, Column E Amount Applied to PE Liability
    isn't NONE or blank.
    note
    If it has a value, it needs to be a positive amount.
  3. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.

Solution 2: Adjust K-1 Aggregation settings

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    Connecticut
    E-file
    Attachments
    K-1 Aggregation
    Summary
    .
  2. In the
    CT 1065 Composite Return Suppress options
    section, clear the checkbox for
    Suppress partner state modifications - Part 5
    .
    note
    You could keep this checked, but will need to attach an aggregation file.
  3. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
