Error: Field ‘InvestorInformation’ cannot be empty

This validation error occurs on Ohio Form IT1140 or IT4708 when “Suppress system-generated investor information” is marked without an attached aggregation file, or the return is missing partner information.

Validation failed on [FILE_ID]: Form: FormIT1140[1][@documentId='FormIT1140] FormDetail[1]/InvestorInformation[1] Error: InvestorInformation ActionNeeded: Field 'InvestorInformation' cannot be empty Element Name: InvestorInformation XPath: //FormIT1140[@documentId='FormIT1140']/FormDetail[1]/InvestorInformation[1] XML Fragment: Field Key: 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 Error Code: c00ce011 Error Reason: Element '{http://www.irs.gov/efile}InvestorInformation' cannot be empty according to the DTD/Schema. This error also occurs on Form IT4708 with the same validation message.

Solution 1: Clear the suppress checkbox when no aggregation file is attached

Use this solution when you checked “Suppress system-generated investor information” but didn’t attach a K-1 aggregation file.

  2. For Form IT4708: Go to
    Organizer

    Ohio

  3. Clear the
    Suppress system generated investor information
    checkbox.
  4. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.

Solution 2: Attach an investor information aggregation file

Use this solution when you want to suppress system-generated investor information and provide your own aggregation file.
  1. For Form IT1140: Go to
    Organizer

    Ohio
    E-file
    Attachments
    K-1 Aggregation IT-1140
    Summary
    .
  2. For Form IT4708: Go to
    Organizer
    States
    Ohio
    E-file
    Attachments
    K-1 Aggregation IT-4708

  3. Attach the investor information aggregation file.
  4. Don’t use spaces or special characters in the file name.
  5. Verify
    Suppress system generated investor information
    checkbox is marked.
  6. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.

Solution 3: Add partner information

Use this solution when the return doesn't have partner information entered.
  1. Go to

    Partner Information
    Partner by Partner Data
    .
  2. Add two or more partners and complete their name and address information.
  3. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.

Solution 4: For 1120 corporations—Designate investors

Use this solution for 1120 corporations using composite returns.
  1. Go to
    Organizer

    General Information
    Designation of Investors for Forms IT 1140 and IT 4708
    .
  2. Mark at least 1 investor as an IT 4708 composite return participating investor.
  3. Go to

    Pass-Through Entity Tax Credit
    .
  4. Enter NONE in the
    PTE Tax Credit (Override)
    field.
  5. Do a full recompute, then recreate the e-file.
