Error: The field ApportionedBusinessGainLoss can't be empty

This validation error occurs during California Schedule 5E e-filing when the ApportionedBusinessGainLoss and RelativePercentage fields aren't populated for combined report entities.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Tax Forms
    States
    California
    Combined Report
    Combined Tax Computations
    [Entity Name]
    .
  2. Enter
    NONE
    in the
    Average apportionment percentage
    and
    Relative percent (average apportionment percentage for the entity divided by combined apportionment percentage)
    fields.
  3. Enter this in both columns.
  4. This transfers to
    Tax Forms
    States
    California
    Combined Report
    Combined Capital Gain/Loss
    [Entity Name]
    and populates lines 10–14.
  5. Run a full recompute and recreate the e-file.

Complete these steps for all entities that don't have these fields populated.
