Error: The field EFIN with value 0, data is missing

This validation error occurs when the Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) and/or originator type are missing from the California XML.

Error message

Validation failed on [FILE_ID]: Form: CA-ReturnHeader Requirement: Type for Electronic Filing Identification No. - 6 digits Error: The field 'EFIN' with value '0', data is missing. Element Name: EFIN XPath: /CA-Return[1]/CA-ReturnHeader[1]/Originator[1]/EFIN[1] XML Fragment: 0 Field Key: 105,1518,1,0,0,0,0,0,0 Error Code: [CODE] Error Reason: '0' violates pattern constraint of '[0-9]{6}'. The element '{http://www.ftb.ca.gov/efile}EFIN' with value '0' failed to parse.

Solution

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    State E-File
    Enable/Create Returns
    Return tab
    Line California
    .
  2. Enter an EFIN in Column I and select an Originator Type in Column J.
  3. Run a full recompute and recreate the e-file.
  4. For consolidated returns, complete these steps in lower members including the eliminations entity.
