Error: The attribute ‘referenceDocumentId’ with value ‘BinaryAttach BinaryAttachN1 BinaryAttachN2’, data format is not correct

This validation error occurs when e-filing Virginia Form 500 and the Federal return can't be e-filed. Virginia requires a PDF attachment of the Federal return.

Solution

If the Federal return can't be e-filed (for example, the Federal return is 1120-REIT), Virginia requires a copy of the Federal return as a PDF attachment. The attachment name should be ‘Form500 Federal Return Attachment’.
  1. Go to
    Organizer
    States
    Virginia
    E-file
    Attachments
    Summary
     and select the
    Attach PDF
     button.
  2. Under the
    Attachment Description
     section, select
    Predefined description
     and select
    Form500 Federal Return Attachment
    .
  3. Under the
    Mandatory
     section, select
    User defined form/schedule name and element/line number
     and select
    Form500
     for the Form/schedule name in the menu.
  4. Recreate the e-file and resubmit.
