Include international forms using third-party software in e-filed return

When using third-party software to create international forms, these forms can be seamlessly integrated into the complete e-filed return. The process involves extracting the relevant sections of the XML file that contain the international forms and combining them with the final XML file, which is then submitted electronically.

Upload Third-Party XML Files

When you upload or attach a third-party XML e-file, the system includes only the following international forms in the final XML file: Forms 926, 1118, 5471, 8621, 8858, and 8865. Ensure that third-party files have an XML file extension.

Attach PDF Files

Note that PDF attachments included with a third-party e-file are not included in the merge process. Instead, attach all PDF files through the Edit > Insert > EFile Attachments process in the browser.

Complete Schedule N

The Schedule N Questions - Foreign Operations of U.S. Corporations are not automatically updated with information contained in the merged XML files. You must update these questions in the

Validate Third-Party Files

Validate the third-party XML file to detect XML errors. If the third-party XML file contains XML validation errors, the merge process is not completed.

Create the E-file

The Create Electronic File process combines the third-party XML files with other XML files to complete the final XML file for submission to the IRS. You can merge third-party XML files in single or top consolidation returns only.
