Sideload the add-in in Excel for the web

This installation method is typically used by individual users to install the add-in in their browser session.
  • You'll need to have the add-in manifest file (manifest.xml).
  • You'll need access to Excel for the web (for example, via office.com, SharePoint, or OneDrive).
Do the following to install the add-in to your browser session:
note
Any user with the manifest file and access to Excel for the web can install the add-in.
  1. Make sure you have the
    manifest.xml
file for the add-in saved on your local device.
  2. Go to Excel for the web.
  3. Open an existing workbook or create a new one.
  4. On the Excel toolbar, select the
    Home
    tab then select
    Add-ins
    .
    note
On some versions, this might be at
    Insert
    Add-ins

  5. On the
    Office Add-in
    screen, select
    More Add-ins
    .
  6. Select
    Upload My Add-in
    .
    note
This is usually at the end of the list or under a
    Manage my Add-ins
    dropdown.
  7. On the
    Upload Add-in
    screen, select
    Browse
    .
  8. Go to the location you saved the
    manifest.xml
    file.
  9. Select the file then select
    Open
    .
  10. Select
    Upload
    on the
    Upload Add-in
    screen.
    • If the manifest is correct and the add-in installs successfully, you'll get a confirmation. The add-in should now be active.
    • You can interact with the Workpapers NG add-in in Excel for the web.
note
  • Clearing your browser cache, using a different browser, or signing out and back in might require you to sideload the add-in again.
  • If the
    manifest.xml
file itself is updated, you'll need to manually update the add-in.
