Determination Anywhere 2025.03 release notes

Read this release note alongside the Determination release notes, which give updates to the core tax engine, which includes logic modifications and regulatory adjustments. These updates extend to the tax engine within Determination Anywhere.

Release highlights

Determination Anywhere version 2025.03 now supports a separate app that supports deployment on minimal infrastructure, such as those in brick and mortar stores.

New features

DA store app (1445522, 1445539, 1365520)
We are introducing the "DA Store" app, designed for deployment in limited infrastructure environments, such as brick and mortar stores. This app operates efficiently, requiring less than 1 CPU and approximately 2 GB of RAM for the tax engine, and less than 1 CPU and around 0.5 GB of RAM for the sync module per Pod within the cluster.
Key features include:
  1. Optimized performance:
We introduced a logical cache mechanism within the engine to enhance efficiency, making the app significantly lighter than the current cloud-based DA. This improves tax calculation performance and optimizes memory and CPU utilization.
  2. Stateless, Multi-Tenant deployment:
We excluded a database from the required components, letting the system support a stateless architecture and facilitate multi-tenant deployments, thereby eliminating the need for database administration.
  3. Localized tax content:
We tailor tax content and delivery to specific DA instances, ensuring that only content relevant to the store's physical location is present.
  4. Comprehensive data verification:
The DA Mothership on the Thomson Reuters side features a robust data verification pipeline to ensure the integrity, completeness, and format of content and configuration data. This pipeline incorporates automated verification and reconciliation processes across AWS and OCI environments.
  5. Enhanced data integrity:
The app guarantees complete and accurate synchronization of content and configuration data at the DA client, preserving data integrity.
note
  • Only U.S. tax content is available; international tax content is not yet supported.
  • Transactions audited on the tax engine can't be synced back to the DA Mothership on the TR side for reporting.
We’ll address these limitations in the upcoming version of the DA Store app.
Due to the nature of physical store transactions, there are changes in the support of certain business scenarios. To note:
  • Goods (GS) is the only Transaction Type supported.
  • Buyer role is supported, not Seller role.
  • Ship From and Ship To locations only are supported and at the invoice level only, not at each line level.
  • Intra-state transactions are supported; inter-state (out of state transactions) are not, as tax content is localized.
  • Latitude and Longitude features are omitted, as physical store locations remain static compared to dynamic e-commerce transactions.
  • Vendor Charged Tax (VCT) is not supported.
  • Batch transactions - multiple invoices in a single batch - are not supported.
DA App – OCI image distribution (1272615)
We’ve implemented a new container image distribution solution using Oracle Container Registry (OCR), providing customers with an alternative to the existing AWS ECR for pulling images. This solution introduces a Container Image Auth Service component to ensure the secure distribution of container images. We have documented comprehensive details about the API and the authentication mechanism required to use this feature in the Development Portal.
Disable
compliance profile for performance (1645419)
We’ve introduced a new configurable profile that lets selective disabling of the Compliance Controller for DA deployments on a per-customer basis. This feature is designed to enhance tax engine performance. Customers experiencing performance challenges with the tax engine can benefit from increased processing speed by disabling the Compliance Controller for their DA deployments.
To enable this setting for your DA deployment, coordinate with your PS Managed Services team.
Data Residency – Avro schema (1409804)
DA supports 'data residency,' enabling customers who prefer not to sync audited data back to the DA Mothership on the TR side to redirect it to a storage solution within their own infrastructure. We generate the output file through this process in Avro format—the same data format used for syncing to TR.
We’ve created an externalized version of the data schema, excluding any elements specific to Thomson Reuters. This enables customers to use this data set to generate reports or build analytics services on their infrastructure. Currently, this file is available on demand, and we plan to make it externally accessible soon.

Fixes

Security vulnerabilities
We've resolved critical vulnerabilities in the DA Client components, as identified by our security tools. This update enhances the security and stability of our system by mitigating potential risks. We resolved these vulnerabilities through updates to the application components used within the DA Client.
