Balance Import wizard: Options window Defaults/Options tab

The
Defaults/Options
tab includes default selections for country, calculation code, tax type, and business location, as well as options for processing and place determination.

Defaults

The section for default selections represents certain data elements needed for processing your balance import data, but may not necessarily be data elements included in your balance import file. You can use default selections or assign the appropriate selection corresponding to your balance data in this section.
note
If these data elements are in your balance import file, the information in your balance import file will be used in lieu of these selections.
Country
If the designation for the Country relevant to your transactions isn't in your balance import file, select the country you want. The default is UNITED STATES.
Calculation code
If the calculation code that should be applied to your transactions isn't in your balance import file, select the calculation code you want. The default is 101 - Forward Calculation.
Tax type
If the tax type that should be assigned to your transactions isn't in your balance import file, you must select the tax type you want. The default is SALES.
Business location
A business location code isn't a required data element in your balance import data if you don't have any location reporting requirements. A specific location hasn't been set as a default.
If you have location reporting requirements but the location code isn't in your balance import file, you can select the location code to assign to your transaction records. Using this item requires that you set up a business location code in Locations for your Entity.

Processing options

Assume decimal point
If your balance import file doesn't contain decimal points but your transaction amounts are in dollar and cents, select
Assume a Decimal Point
. A decimal point will be inserted two places to the left on your transaction amounts during the balance import process. For example, 12345678 will be imported as 123456.78.

Place determination

You can use various place determination methods to determine the tax area or place to be used as the basis for tax calculations performed on your balance data. These methods are covered in this section.
Based on the place determination information available in your balance import file, you can choose more than one method. If you make more than one selection, the application follows a hierarchy to determine the tax area assignment for a balance import record.
Business location codes
If your balance import file contains business location codes and those codes are set up for your entity in
Locations
with a tax area mapped, you can use business location code as a selection for place determination during Balance Import.
Place Codes
If your balance data import file contains place codes and those codes are mapped in a place code table, you can use place codes as a selection for place determination during Balance Import. Select your place code table in Tables/Lists tab of Balance Import.
Geographic Names
If your balance data import file contains geographic names for tax area levels such as country names, state names, county names, city names, and district names, you can use geographic names as a selection for place determination during balance import. If you've set up a geographic name table to cross-reference your internal geographic name spellings to the system spellings, select your geographic name table in the Tables/Lists tab.
Postal Codes
If your balance data import file contains postal codes, ZIP Code or ZIP Code plus ZIP Code extension, you can use postal codes as a selection for place determination during Balance Import.
note
Geographic Names and Postal Codes can be used together for additional place determination precision.
