Jurisdictional Organizer

Jurisdictional Organizer for the U.S. and Canada consists of the following categories:
  • General Information
  • Electronic Filing
  • Return Organizer
note
Currently, electronic filing doesn't apply to Canada.
General Information varies widely across federal, state, provincial, and locally administered jurisdictions, but may include one or more of the following groups:
  • Account Information
  • Filing Information
  • Preparer Information
  • Payment Information
  • Discount, Penalty, and Interest Rates
  • Print Options
Data set up in General Information gets transferred into your tax return during Transfer. Once general information's within the tax return, it then carries into or is utilized by specific tax returns or all tax returns within the jurisdiction. Electronic filing information varies widely across state and locally administered jurisdictions, but may include one or more of the following groups:
  • File Creation
  • Return Type
  • Taxpayer Information
  • Contact Information
  • Payment Information
  • Override Option
Data set up in Electronic Filing gets transferred into your tax return during Transfer. Once electronic filing information's within the tax return, it then carries into or is utilized by specific tax returns or all tax returns within the jurisdiction to generate an electronic tax return where applicable. Return Organizer contains data for specific tax returns.
Return Organizer contains the following categories:
  • Check Request
  • Return Information
  • Return Information Detail
The first element of Return Organizer's the Check Request. You have the option to enter data in the global check request which will then transfer into the check request for all tax returns. If you have tax return specific check request data you need to store and maintain, you can enter it in the check request for those returns within Return Organizer. Data entered into the return organizer check request will override data carrying into the tax return check request from the global check request.
Tax returns that have a multiple location version of the tax return will have a summary check request provided in case the jurisdiction allows a single check to accompany the separate returns by location. These tax returns will also have a location check request in case the jurisdiction requires a separate check per location tax return.
note
In order to enter check request template data for a location check request, the location must be set up in Locations. Otherwise the location won't appear for Location.
Return Information is a second element of Return Organizer. Return Information is where you can maintain Other Deduction descriptions for specific lines on a tax return requesting an explanation of the deduction you are taking that isn't on a specifically identified deduction field. Return Information Detail's the last element of Return Organizer. Return Information Detail's where you can maintain Other Deduction descriptions for white paper explanations of deductions you're taking. This is for cases where the return doesn't have a blank line on the return to provide an explanation, but instead asks for an explanation to be attached.
