Connecticut tax areas
The state of Connecticut is replacing dissolved county authorities with Regional Councils of Government (Census Designated Places). We've added additional tax areas in Connecticut for this release to reflect this change. We'll keep the existing tax areas that include the dissolved county authorities active in the system until December 31, 2024, to facilitate annual reporting. If you use Business Locations as your Place of Determination in our product, review all your locations. Then, remap the tax area to a newly added CDP tax area. We'll retain the old tax areas until year-end. However, we recommend that you complete the remapping of Business Location tax areas to avoid issues next year.

How OSU can help
Product updates in this release
Customers are unable to rectify the errors based on the messages that are provided on the screens.
OSU now provides enriched messages along with an actionable guidance to solve those errors.
All the messages are modified so that they explain the error with more clarity and the message also includes remediation steps for the users to solve the error with minimal effort.
Customers are unable to load more than 500 transactions on binder-level journals and detailed ledgers.
OSU now provides more options to choose the items per page, up to a maximum of 10000 transactions per page.
The items per page will support 500/1000/2000/5000/1000 transactions per page, with 500 as the default setting.
Customers face a lot of inconvenience while adding the site codes due to the selection of district codes rather than the actual set of districts.
OSU now provides a full list of all the Missouri tax areas along with the full district names. This removes the inconvenience of figuring out what does each district code represents.
OSU supports adding multiple tax areas by searching and selecting the desired tax areas an add them. After assigning a unique site code to each of the added tax areas, the user can save all of them in a single step.
Return Register import is unable to process the completely if no submission mode is present are an invalid submission mode is specified in the file.
Proper error handling is in place if the specified submission mode is invalid.
If the submission mode specified in the import file is not recognized, then the respective records will be flagged with a message ‘INVALID SUBMISSION MODE’ in the process log export file. If no submission mode is specified, then the OSU will auto-assign the highest level mode as the default submission mode for that return.
UI enhancements
  • Error Messages displayed on the Return Exports and Balance Imports are improved for the user to better understand the corrective steps need to be taken to rectify the error.
    • Key Benefits: The messages will provide more clarity to the users and the additional info in the messages will provide an actionable guidance for the user to diagnose and solve the errors.
  • The binder-level journals and ledgers will load 500 records per page. If the user wants to load more records, then the user can do so by selecting an appropriate items per page from the bottom-right corner of the screen. These options are 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000.
    • Key Benefits: Previously, 200 is the default limit and 500 is the maximum limit. Now, 500 is default and 10000 is the maximum limit. This provides more flexibility to the users in reviewing the transactions.
  • The 'Location Code' filter is changed from text to dropdown. This is done on both - journals and detailed ledgers of a binder.
    • Key Benefits: The users can directly select a specific location from the list rather than entering a specific location and filter the records.
Entity configuration
  • For site codes management, multiple jurisdiction codes can be selected from the full available list of Missouri tax areas and save them in one shot after assigning a unique site code on the main screen for each of the selected tax areas.
    • Clicking ‘Add Code’ will open the below screen as a popup. The added records will always be on the top of the main screen's grid. They can be saved only after entering a site code on all the added rows. Until then SAVE will be disabled.
  • If you choose to remove any of the added records before saving it, then you can do it by clicking 'Add Code' to open the popup screen. The previously added records will be checked by default on that screen. User can uncheck any of the added records and click ADD to remove them from the main screen.
Key Benefits:
  1. You can select multiple tax areas by using the grid header options, rather than manually selecting each of the 5 entries to define 1 site code. Manual efforts will be reduced if multiple site codes must be configured.
  2. Previously, the district codes were displayed. With this change, the full name of each district is available for the users.
  3. You'll never be able to add a same tax area twice, even with a different site code. Data accuracy is maintained without any validation and error messages.
  • The Return Register import is enhanced to restrict importing returns with the message 'INVALID SUBMISSION MODE' in the process export file. If no specific submission mode is specified, then the system will register the return by considering the highest applicable submission mode for that return.
Key Benefits:
  1. Appropriate error handling when the user imports the incorrect data into the system.
  2. Enforcing default selection if submission mode is missing/blank in the import file.
