Skill: Data discovery
Data Discovery is a CoCounsel skill that retrieves and explores ONESOURCE Indirect Tax configuration data using natural language.
About data discovery
Data Discovery is a CoCounsel skill that lets ONESOURCE customers retrieve and explore ONESOURCE Indirect Tax configuration data using natural language.
Ask questions in plain language instead of searching multiple configuration screens or manually. CoCounsel interprets your request, retrieves the configuration data, and presents the results in a human-readable format.
Data Discovery supports quick access, validation, and exploration of configuration data. It doesn’t support making configuration changes.
note
Data Discovery capabilities may be introduced incrementally across ONESOURCE Determination. The availability of specific queries, search filters, or entity details may vary depending on the release version. Some limitations on the functionality are expected.
What data discovery can do
Data Discovery provides read-only access to ONESOURCE Indirect Tax configuration data. It can help you:
Retrieve configuration information.
- View company details using company name or external ID
- Retrieve jurisdiction and registration information
- Access company-level configuration settings
Search and filter data.
- Find companies based on metadata such as:
- Created date
- Updated date
- Created by or updated by user
- Narrow results using specific identifiers or filters
Validate existing configurations.
- Verify how a company, jurisdiction, or registration is configured
- Verify configuration data quickly without using multiple UI screens
What data discovery doesn't do
Data Discovery is read-only. It doesn't create, update, or delete configuration data, expose raw APIs or technical details, or support bulk exports and reporting. To change configuration data, use standard ONESOURCE workflows.
How data discovery works
When you ask a question using Data Discovery, you enter a natural language query in CoCounsel. CoCounsel interprets your intent and maps the request to ONESOURCE configuration data. It then retrieves the results and presents them in a readable format.
You don't need to interact with APIs, parameters, or technical details. CoCounsel handles everything automatically.
How to write effective data discovery queries
The accuracy and usefulness of results depend on how clearly you express the request. Follow these guidelines to get the best results.
Be clear about what you are looking for.
State the type of data you want to retrieve, such as:
- Company details
- Jurisdictions
- Registrations
Example: “Show me company details for ABC Corp”
Use specific identifiers whenever possible.
Queries work best when they include:
- Company name
- External company ID
- User name (for created or updated filters)
Ask 1 question at a time.
Data Discovery is optimized for single-intent queries.
- “Show me company details for ABC Corp”
- “List jurisdictions for ABC Corp”
Refine your query if the results are unclear.
If the results are incomplete or unexpected:
- Add more specific identifiers
- Include filters
- Clarify which entity you mean
Refining your question is the fastest way to improve results.
Limitations to keep in mind
- Data Discovery provides read-only access, so results depend on data availability and your permissions.
- Responses may also vary based on how clearly you phrase your query.
- Detailed API-level error messages are not shown.
- These limitations are intentional and by design.
