Correct locality mismatches

For print purposes, ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting prints any value entered in the
Locality
field of the form so that the form displays the information as it is understood by the recipient. For filing purposes, however, ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting requires the locality to be loaded in a specific format. Otherwise, the locality will not accept the filing. The locality tables listed in the prior section can help you determine the locality name and ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting locality codes for your local filings. By default, a filing generated by ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting includes only data that has the ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting locality codes.
Before generating your locality batch filings, you should determine whether there are any locality mismatches and, if there are mismatches, resolve them.
note
The process for correcting locality mismatches does not change the data loaded on the forms. For example, if the value, ADAMS TAX COLLECTION DISTRICT, was loaded rather than the value, 01 (the ADAMS TCD code), then this process does not change your locality value to 01. Rather, this process creates a translation so that ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting knows that all forms with a locality of ADAMS TAX COLLECTION DISTRICT should be included in the filing for ADAMS TCD code 01. This translation applies to all tax years so once the locality mismatch batch process completes, the process does not need to be completed again.
To determine whether there are any locality mismatches:
  1. Select the
    Print/Filing
    module.
  2. Select
    Local/City Filings
    from the Side Menu.
  3. Under the
    Locality Mismatches
section at the bottom of the page, select the right arrow.
  4. After the page is refreshed, select a state from the
    States with Localities
    list then select
    Load
    .
  5. If there are no mismatches, the "No Mismatched Localities found" message displays. If there is at least one mismatch, the
    Localities not matched
    and
    Localities on record lists
    display. The
    Localities not matched
list displays the mismatched localities and the
    Localities on record
displays the locality codes and locality descriptions available in ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting.
  6. Select the mismatched locality you want to match from the
    Localities not matched
    list.
  7. Scroll through the
    Localities on record
list until you find the corresponding locality code then select the locality code.
  8. Select
    Save
. The locality is queued for correction and the mismatched locality is removed from the
    Localities not matched
    list.
    note
Only one locality can be queued for correction at a time. If you have more than one mismatched locality, repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 until all of the mismatched localities are removed from the
    Localities not matched
    list.
  9. After all of the mismatched localities are queued for correction, select
    Submit
. The batch update is processed.
note
If the updated locality is incorrect, select the
Delete
check box for the locality then select
Submit
. The update is removed and the locality moved back to the
Mismatched Localities
category.
Remember, the process for correcting locality mismatches does not change the data loaded on the forms. This process creates a translation so that ONESOURCE Tax Information Reporting knows that all forms with a locality of ADAMS TAX COLLECTION DISTRICT should be included in the filing for ADAMS TCD code 01.
