About Using Barcodes with ONESOURCE Trust Tax Tools
A barcode is a printed pattern of lines or bars that represent letters and numbers. The barcodes on the tracking pages of a tax return or worksheet generated by ONESOURCE Trust Tax identify the trust account and the document that the barcode represents. Barcodes are read when someone scans the printed pattern of a barcode using a barcode scanner.
Typically, barcodes are collected using a workstation that has a barcode scanner connected to the workstation's keyboard port. The ONESOURCE Trust Tax-Remote Bar Code Collector utility lets any workstation that has the utility installed on it collect barcodes. You must obtain a license to use ONESOURCE Trust Tax Tools before you can use the ONESOURCE Trust Tax-Remote Bar Code Collector utility to collect barcodes. To obtain a license, contact your Client Manager.
About Supported Barcode Scanners
The ONESOURCE Trust Tax-Remote Bar Code Collector utility accepts barcodes scanned from any Symbol scanner that uses fuzzy logic technology. This document provides purchase, setup and use instructions for the following units:
- The Symbol LS3408FZ, a handheld corded scanner.
- The Symbol Phaser P460 memory scanner, a cordless batch data collection handheld scanner.
If you decide to use the LS3408FZ scanner, order the following parts:
- The Symbol LS3408FZ scanner.
- The CBA-U01-S07ZAR cable, Universal Style 3, USB, Dura Gray, 7' for connecting as a USB keyboard or the LS3408FZ Keyboard Wedge PS2 Cable assembly, 9' or 20' for connecting with a PS2 keyboard.
If you decide to use the P460 scanner, order the following parts:
- Symbol P460 kit, which includes the 4 MB P460 scanner, PL 460 cradle, power supply and power cord.
- 6' Synapse adapter cable to cradle (25-17821-20R), which is referred to as the Synapse cable.
- HID USB keyboard synapse cable, series A (STI85-0200), which is referred to as the Synapse Interface Adapter.
