Using Secure FTP to Transfer Data Files

Secure FTP with PGP or GPG offers a secure method for transferring trust accounting data files from your organization to Thomson Reuters. Secure FTP with PGP or GPG ensures your confidential tax data remains confidential during transfer and at rest by encrypting and authenticating the transfer session and your trust accounting data file. Secure FTP with PGP or GPG streamlines the file transfer process and eliminates the need for expensive equipment or tunneling software.

Secure FTP is a companion protocol built into the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol suite. SFTP runs over a SSH session (typically on TCP port 22), which encrypts and authenticates the transfer session so that your trust accounting data file and login information are protected as they are transferred from one computer to another.

PGP and GPG are encryption solutions that use public/private key technology to ensure that the data that is sent remains encrypted throughout the transfer process and after it comes to rest. When transferring your trust accounting data file to Thomson Reuters, you will use our public key to encrypt your trust accounting data file. We then use our private key to decrypt your data file before loading the file into your ONESOURCE Trust Tax database.

You have the option to use your private key to digitally sign your trust accounting data file before it is transferred to Thomson Reuters. A digital signature authenticates the sender of the data file and ensures that the file originated from your organization.
