Preparing OSMI Reports

When you submit a request to prepare an OSMI report, you can indicate that you want to prepare OSMI reports for all states that require OSMI reporting or only the states you select. After processing successfully completes, the Document and Data Files page includes the following files for each state included in the request:
  • OSMI Data File
    -The data in this file is formatted in compliance with the requirements of the state taxing authority. The OSMI Data File is filed with the state taxing authority.
  • ONESOURCE Trust Tax does not file OSMI data with the state taxing authorities on your behalf. You are responsible for filing OSMI data with the state taxing authority using the submission method outlined by the state taxing authority.
  • OSMI Report
    -This file is a PDF file that includes the OSMI data in the OSMI Data File. You can print and retain the OSMI Report for your records.
OSMI reports can be prepared as many times as is necessary. If an OSMI Data File was not previously downloaded, ONESOURCE Trust Tax replaces the existing data file. If an OSMI Data File was previously downloaded, ONESOURCE Trust Tax prepares a new data file.
Additional charges may apply when an OSMI Data File is prepared after it has been downloaded.
To prepare an OSMI report:
  1. Select
    HOME
    ,
    Admin
     then
    Prepare OSMI Report
    .
  2. If OSMI Data Files were already prepared for the tax year, a message displays and indicates whether the files were downloaded. Select OK to display the Prepare Out of State Municipal Income Report page.
  3. Complete one of the following:
    • To prepare OSMI reports for all states that require OSMI reporting, ensure that
      Prepare OSMI report for all states
       is selected.
    • To prepare OSMI reports for only the states you select, select
      Prepare OSMI report for selected states only
       then select the check box for each state you want to prepare an OSMI report for.
  5. Select
    Submit Request
    .
  6. Select OK when a message indicating that the OSMI report request was successfully queued displays.
  7. After processing completes, you can access the Documents and Data Files page to download the OSMI Data File. See Downloading OSMI Data Files for details.
