Reviewing a Tax History Back-End File
To review a tax history back-end file:
- SelectHOME,AdminthenDocuments and Data Files. The Documents and Data Files page shows the PAN level documents and data files for all types and all years.
- Locate the tax history back-end file you prepared in the applicable tax year category and theFolder: Accounts-Tax Computation Resultssubcategory. The tax return compute date range you entered when you prepared the tax history back-end file is shown in theCommentsfield.
- Select theFile Namelink for the tax history back-end file.
- ONESOURCE Trust Tax stores only the two most recently prepared tax history back-end files. As shown in the following graphic, the file name for a prepared tax history back-end file includes a sequence number before the file extension:
- The first prepared file has a sequence number of 0, and the second prepared file has a sequence number of 1. When a third tax history back-end file is prepared, the oldest prepared file is replaced with the newest prepared file. The sequence number for the newest prepared file is 0.
- Complete one of the following when the message, asking if you want to open or save the file, displays:
- SelectOpento open the file. WinZip opens. You can extract the data file or double-click the file to open the Internet browser associated with the .XML extension and display the file's contents.
- SelectSaveto export the file. The Save As screen displays. You can change the file name and save the file to the location you want to save it.
- Review the details of the tax history back-end file to ensure the taxpayers and payment amounts are correct. If you notice an error, correct the source taxpayer information or payment amount, reprocess the account's tax return then prepare the tax history back-end file again.
- For accounts requiring dual return processing (Section 4947(a)(1) trusts that require both 1041 and 990 return reporting), the tax history back-end file can contain two tax due amounts if both the 1041 and the 990-PF have a tax liability.
