Reviewing and Applying Factors
Determining when to Start Your Review
The first week in January, WSC begins to transmit to ONESOURCE Trust Tax a factor file that includes the information WSC received from mutual fund companies and corporations. Transmissions occur daily (typically, factor files are received around 11:30 P.M.) until no new factors are received. Factor files are loaded by ONESOURCE Trust Tax as they are received from WSC.
The
Receiving Wall Street Concepts Factors
register is updated after a factor file is loaded to ONESOURCE Trust Tax. You can use this register to review information about the transmission and loading of factor files, and the total number of assets in each file. As tax season progresses, the number of assets typically increases with each transmission. After a factor file is loaded to ONESOURCE Trust Tax, two jobs are run sequentially. The first job, the fund posting job, is run for each PAN to update the assets held in the PAN. The second job, the account statistics job, runs for each PAN to set the issue flags and to update the weighted average impact of any revised factors. Information about the fund posting job and the account statistics job are included in the
Processing Updates for Wall Street Concepts Files
register. To view the date and time processing completed, create a custom register based on the Processing Updates for Wall Street Concepts Files
register then add the Received
and Ended
columns.note
Update dates in ONESOURCE Trust Tax are always the next day because factor files are processed during the night.
Reviewing and Applying Factors
To be considered for factoring, transactions must be posted to one of the tax codes considered for factoring. This applies to transactions that are manually added or are added via a data load to ONESOURCE Trust Tax.
For each asset, payments are associated with transactions posted in ONESOURCE Trust Tax as follows:
- Posting date ranges are determined from the payment date provided by WSC. You can adjust the date range using theWhen matching mutual fund payments with transactions, include transactions posted this many days before the payment dateVendor Info option.
- Transactions posted on or after a payment date and up to one day prior to the next payment date are factored in the proportions indicated for the payment.
- Transactions posted in the subsequent year that have tax effective dates in the current year are included in the date range for the final payment for the year.
You can review, modify and apply factors for one asset or for multiple assets. See Reviewing, Modifying and Applying Factors for an Asset or Applying Factors for Multiple Assets for details.
Before You Begin
Before you begin reviewing and applying factors, ONESOURCE Trust Tax recommends reviewing the registers listed below to determine whether potential issues or inconsistent information may exist. The registers are in the
Wall Street Concepts Income Reallocation
base category. The register review alerts you to potential issues and assumptions that were made to correct inconsistent factor information. You do not need to resolve issues during your register review. The same potential issues and assumptions listed in the registers below are also included on the asset detail page when you review factors.
- Potential Issues on WSC Assets with IR Factors-Review this asset-level register to determine whether an actual transaction-matching issue exists. Factor files are evaluated when they are loaded to ONESOURCE Trust Tax. If a potential transaction-matching issue is encountered, this register will display one of the following messages in theIssuecolumn:
- Posting does not exist for this asset in at least one range.
- Posting exists in a date range but tax effective date in next year.
- Posting has WSC factors of all income but transaction's original tax code indicates a gain.
- Asset has multiple issues.
- It is your responsibility to determine whether the potential issue is an actual issue.
- Assumptions Made for Inconsistent IR Factors-Review this register to determine whether ONESOURCE Trust Tax made one or more assumptions to correct inconsistent factor information. The assumptions made for each asset in this register are displayed as data inconsistency messages in theAssumption Made,2nd Assumption Madeand3rd Assumption Madecolumns. If more than three assumptions were made for an asset, the following message displays in the3rd Assumption Madecolumn: "This asset has more than 3 issues-please review."
- Assets listed in this register will have at least one assumption but may not have a second or third assumption.
- The following table includes a list of each inconsistent factor issue, the associated data inconsistency message, and the steps to take to resolve the issue:

- Beginning with tax year 2022, the "Factors received exceeded 100%" message displays in theAdditional Informationcolumn if the total factor percentage for a given payment date exceeds 100 percent. This message is also included as a selection for theIssuesdrop-down list in thePotential Issues on WSC Assets with IR Factorsregister.
