Sideload the add-in manually in your browser session using a manifest file and Excel for the web.
Make sure you have the following:
The add-in manifest file (
manifest.xml
) saved on your local device.
Access to Excel for the web, for example, through Office.com, SharePoint, or OneDrive.
Go to Excel for the web and open an existing workbook or create a new one.
On the Excel toolbar, select the
Home
tab, then select
Add-ins
.

On some versions, select
Insert
Add-ins
instead.
On the
Office Add-in
screen, select
More Add-ins
.
Select
Upload My Add-in
.
note
This option typically appears at the end of the list or in the
Manage my Add-ins
dropdown.
On the
Upload Add-in
screen, select
Browse
.
Go to the location where you saved the
manifest.xml
file.
Select the file, then
Open
.
Select
Upload
on the
Upload Add-in
screen.
If the manifest is valid, a confirmation message appears and the add-in becomes active. You can now interact with the Workpapers NG add-in in Excel for the web.
Be aware of the following after sideloading the add-in:
If you clear your browser cache, switch browsers, or sign out and back in, you must sideload the add-in again.
If the
manifest.xml
file is updated, you must update the add-in manually by sideloading it again.
