Prepare for migration to Onvio

Start here to prepare for the Onvio migration process.

Before you begin, make sure you're assigned to an Onvio permission group that has Migrations enabled.
As an UltraTax CS user, you should first populate clients and contacts from UltraTax CS to Onvio before migrating data from FileCabinet CS and/or NetClient CS.

Decide what to migrate

We offer migration from FileCabinet CS and NetClient CS. Make sure you have access to the product(s) you're migrating from. You don’t need to have a current FileCabinet CS license to migrate your drawers and documents.
If you'll be migrating multiple products, decide which product to start with and the order you want to migrate all your products in. Migrations happen one product at a time, so you need to choose a starting point and an order.
Pick the product with the most accurate and up-to-date client information to go first. This makes the migration process easier in case there are data conflicts between your products' client information.

Review and prep data

For each product you'll be migrating, get your data ready.
We recommend reviewing client data to make sure it's correct. Doing this before migrating can help reduce the number of data conflicts you run into.
  • For NetClient CS: Review names and email addresses. We recommend reviewing the User Accounts report.
  • For FileCabinet CS: Review drawer IDs, names, and TINs. We recommend printing and reviewing the Drawer List report.
Additional FileCabinet CS considerations
  • How many years of data will you migrate? You may want to migrate only data from recent years into Onvio. If you like, you can export older data and store it outside of FileCabinet CS moving forward.
  • Combine duplicate drawers into one. If there are drawers with matching EINs or SSNs, only the first drawer in the list will be migrated to Onvio. The rest will be listed in the
    Document_Upload_Exception_Report
, which you'll get at the end of the migration. To combine duplicate drawers, move all the documents into a single drawer and delete the others.
  • Restore archived documents you want to migrate.
  • Remove passwords from drawers you want to migrate.
