Activities

Set up activities to represent the different kinds of work your firm does. You can use activities as work codes for time and billing. You can also organize tasks for project tracking.

Activities and tasks

Your firm performs activities, which are types of work. Staff members complete tasks, which are specific items assigned to them. Connecting your tasks to activities will help you track and report work.
Example
Activity:
Preparation
Tasks:
  • Prepare 1120 return for Client A
  • Prepare 1065 return for Client B

Activities and activity categories

Activity categories are broader groupings of activities. While an activity is a type of work, an activity category is a group of activities that share a characteristic (such as being billable). Add your activity categories before adding your activities.
Example
Activity category:
Billable time
Activities:
  • Preparation
  • Delivery
  • Client meetings
