Result Finder - step mode

Use the Result Finder - Step Mode tab to see the effect of variation in the values of one or two data entry fields on up to 6 calculated fields.
To open this window, select
Tools
, then
Result Finder
. In the Result Finder - Column Selection window, select an alternative and year and select
OK
. In the Result Finder window, select the
Step Mode
tab.

You can also use the Result Finder to solve for the dollar amount for one or two input fields in order to achieve a desired result in a particular calculated field by selecting the Solve Mode tab.

Fields & buttons

Variable Fields group field

Use this group box to indicate which data entry field(s) should be modified to achieve the result.
Input field
Use this field to select the name of the data entry field that contains the value you would like to vary in order to see its effect on a selected calculated field. In order to run the Result Finder, this field can't be blank.
  • If you opened this dialog while the cursor was in a federal data entry field, the name of that field appears in this field.
  • If this field is blank, or to choose a different field, select the dropdown arrow or press F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only federal data entry fields are available to select.
Increment by
Enter an amount in this field to indicate by how much you would like to increment the Input field (and, if applicable, the Companion field) amount each time you select
Step
. This number can be positive or negative.
Use Companion Field
Select this checkbox if you would like the Result Finder to show the effect of the variation of a second data entry field. (Select the first data entry field in the Input field description field above.)
If you select this checkbox, the Companion field will be displayed, where you can select an additional data entry field to use in the Result Finder's calculations.

This field is only available if you mark the
Companion field
checkbox.
If you would like the Result Finder to show the effect of varying 2 data entry field amounts, mark the Use Companion Field checkbox and enter a field name in this field. To enter a name, select the dropdown arrow or press F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only input (data entry) fields are available to select.
After you select a Companion field, select an option to indicate whether you want the Result Finder to vary the Companion field by incrementing the Companion field amount in the same or opposite direction as the Input field amount.
Change in the same increment as the input field above / Change in the opposite increment (multiply by -1) options

Target group field

Use this group field to identify the calculated field and target amount.
Result field
Use this field to select the name of the calculated field for which you would like to see the effect of variation in the Input (and Companion) fields. In order to run the Result Finder, this field can't be blank.
  • If you opened this dialog while the cursor was in a calculated field, the name of that field appears in this field.
  • If this field is blank, or to choose a different field, select the dropdown arrow or press F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only federal calculated fields are available to select.

Watch fields group field

Select up to five calculated fields to view how their amounts would change.

You can select up to five federal calculated fields to serve as Watch fields. Select a field by selecting the dropdown arrow or pressing F4 to view a list of fields to select from. Only federal calculated fields are available to select.

to have the Result Finder adjust the Input and Companion field amounts by the amount you indicated in the Increment by field. You can select this button any number of times. Amounts from the Result Finder window won't transfer to your plan until you select
Transfer Results
.
Transfer results button
Select
Transfer Results
to transfer the amounts displayed next to the Input and Companion field into the open plan.

If plan data already exists in the Input or Companion field, the Result Finder will replace it with the new amount. If allocation data already exists in the field, Planner CS will indicate the difference between the old and new amounts in the Allocation window for that field.
