Send files to a contact
Use the file transfers feature in Practice CS to send files to contacts via portals in NetFirm CS. The files are sent securely, and the recipient receives an email message with instructions for retrieving the files.

To use the file transfers feature, your firm must be licensed for the Client Management module of Practice CS, as well as NetFirm CS (for portals).
To send files to a contact, follow these steps.
- SelectFile, thenSend Files to Contact.
- In theFrom Stafffield, select the staff member sending the files. This field fills automatically with the name of the staff member currently logged into Practice CS, but you can select a different staff member if necessary.noteThe staff member in theFrom Stafffield must already be associated with a portal in NetFirm CS.
- In theTofield, select the contact you want to send the files to.
- The contact must have a valid email address entered in Practice CS.
- If the contact isn't yet entered into Practice CS, right-click and selectAdd Contact.
- If applicable, select the client, staff member, or office the contact is associated with in theOffield.
- In theSubjectfield, enter text for the subject line of the email message.
- Using the dropdown following theSubjectfield, select whether to deliver the message body securely or include the message in the body of the email. Secure messages can only be read by contacts in their portals in NetFirm CS.
- Enter a message to the contact in the text field.
- SelectAdd Files, then go to and select the file to send. SelectOpento add the file to the file transfer.noteIf you’re running Practice CS through Virtual Office CS or Software as a Service (SaaS), you can go to files on your local network.
- Repeat the previous step until all files have been added.
- Mark theSignature Requiredcheckbox for each file that requires an electronic signature.
- SelectSend. If the selected contact is already associated with an active portal, Practice CS immediately sends the message and transfers the files to the contact’s portal.
- If no portal exists for the contact, choose one of the following options:
- Help me find and use an existing portal- Opens the Find Portal window, where you can search for an existing portal associated with the contact or add a new one. If you find an existing portal, select it thenSelectto continue. The contact will receive an email message that the files have been sent.
- Add a portal for NetClient CS- Immediately creates a new portal in NetClient CS for the contact. The contact will receive 2 email messages: a welcome message with instructions for registering the new portal and signing in, and a notification message about the files being sent.
- Add a temporary portal for NetClient CS- Immediately creates a new temporary portal in NetClient CS for the contact. The contact will receive 2 email messages: a welcome message with instructions for registering the new portal and signing in, and a notification message about the files being sent.
noteContacts you create portals for (full or temporary) must first register those portals before they can access the files you sent. The email messages they receive will come from the following address: register@netclientcs.com.
