Add a graphic logo to a custom format
In Practice CS, you can customize your firm letterhead on reports, letters, invoices, and statements. You can add a graphic logo to those formats by inserting an image file. The format of the file can be any of the common graphic file formats including: BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, ICO, EMF, and WMF.
Follow these steps to add an image file.
note
You can't use Practice CS to create the logo file. You'll need to supply it using an outside source.
Method 1: Add using the Format Wizard
- SelectSetup, thenCustom Formats.
- Right-click the custom format you want to add the image to and selectEdit.
- SelectFormat, thenFormat Wizard.
- Select theHeading Informationtab.
- Mark theLogocheckbox, then select

- Select the image file thenOpen.
- SelectFinish.
- Reposition the image on the layout as necessary.
- Resize the image as necessary.
- To resize the box, you can use the Zoom or Stretch SizeMode attributes. You can make the image larger or smaller, but not larger than the original image size.
- We recommended sizing the logo image to be as close as possible to the size you want to display on your format. This will minimize any distortion to the image that might occur when the Custom Formatter resizes the image to fit within the box you have drawn for it.
- If the image doesn't fill the box correctly, change theSizeModeattribute in the Appearance section ofPropertiesto:
- Zoom: Fills the box with the entire image scaling it to size and retaining the aspect ratio.
- Stretch: Fills the box with the entire image scaling it to size and changing the aspect ratio to the size of the drawn box.
- Clip: Fills the box without changing the scale or aspect ration of the image and clips the portion that doesn't fit in the drawn box.
Method 2: Add directly to invoice format
- SelectSetup, thenCustom Formats.
- Right-click the custom format you want to add the image to and selectEdit.
- Select
from the toolbox button bar. - Place the cursor in the format at the top left of the box you want to place the logo in. The cursor should now be a cross hair. Hold the cursor then drag it down and to the right to draw the box.
- With the newly created box still highlighted, select the file you want to insert by selecting theImageattribute in the Appearance section of thePropertiespane, then select
to open the browser window where you can select your logo file. Select the logo file, then select Open. - Reposition the logo on the invoice layout as necessary.
- The size of the picture box affects the size of the logo. You can change the size of the logo image by resizing the box. To resize the box, use the the Zoom or Stretch SizeMode attributes.
